The year 2025 is coming to an end, but there seems to be no end to Bengaluru’s infrastructure problems. This year, as in every year in the recent past, the poor condition of the roads in the city, traffic jams and incomplete public infrastructure attracted attention.
While citizens and media reports highlighted the prolonged delay of these projects and the resulting hardships faced by daily commuters, heated online exchanges, some of which included big names like Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar and businesswoman Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, not only added fuel to the fire but also ensured that the city maintained its global notoriety.
In ‘Caught in Purgatory’, HinduBengaluru reporters have been following the city’s ongoing infrastructure projects. Some are moving at an excruciatingly slow pace, others have fallen by the wayside, and a few are languishing in the planning stages, having not yet begun. The series will examine many overpasses, ramps, underpasses and road works at different stages of completion.
