Man charged with alleged DV murder of elderly woman in Port Stephens

A man has been charged with murder after an elderly woman was found dead at a home in the Hunter Region of NSW.

An 88-year-old woman was found dead by police Thursday at a home on Taylor Road in Fern Bay.

The crime scene was identified and an investigation was launched.

A 61-year-old man then went to Newcastle Police Station.

The man the woman knew was arrested by detectives.

He is now charged with murder (DV).

The 61-year-old man was refused bail and will appear at Newcastle Local Court on Friday.
