Lost tourist spots big cat ‘the size of a German Shepherd’ close to power station
A tourist who got lost during a trip to Wales claimed to have spotted a large cat the size of a “German Shepherd” dog after “taking the wrong turn”.
The man, identified only as Chris, was touring the island of Anglesey in a camper van with his two dogs on July 18 when he spotted a “large black cat” in mountainous terrain near Wylfa nuclear power station.
Chris reported the sighting to Puma Watch North Wales and said: “[I was] I toured the island in my caravan, took a wrong turn and got lost on a single track road, pulled over for a coffee and took my dogs for a walk, [it is] It’s too far from here [I] I didn’t see another car for 20 minutes.
“[I] “He led the dogs around a bend and about 50 meters away he saw a large black object in the middle of the road, at first there was no movement then suddenly he jumped up and started walking away from me.”
She added of the huge beast: “What impressed me most was its very long tail and it was about as big as my German Shepherd, then it stopped and turned its head to look at me before jumping over a dry stone wall into farmland.”
Puma Watch reported that the cat was “believed to be a cougar.”
There have been a number of previous big cat sightings on Anglesey in recent years; this includes an incident in 2021 where a group of walkers claimed to have seen a big cat swinging in trees close to a river in Llangefni.
He was described as “light gray, resembling a mountain lion” with a “large, wagging tail.”
A man named Evan reported this incident to Puma Watch on behalf of his grandparents, Rosemary and Elwyn.
He said: “They went for a walk on the Dingle path in Llangefni. As they walked along the path they saw a large animal in the distance.
“When he stopped by a tree, they saw that he was a grayish color that was said to resemble a mountain lion.
“They described it as being about the same size as the Labrador, but with shorter legs, longer legs and a tail the same length as its body.
“When they stopped, usually out of fear and disbelief, a young couple walked behind them. Rosemary then said to the young couple: ‘Can you see this from afar?’
“The young girl replied: ‘Oh my God, that’s a big cat!'”
He added: “They then witnessed the cat attacking what they thought was a bird in the tree. “The cat then appeared to be hanging from a lower branch by its claws.
“At this point, they could see the large tail wagging as it hung. The cat then let go but jumped again and hung from the tree a second time.
“The cat was then seen walking away. They both said the cat didn’t seem too aggressive but this may have been due to my grandparents being about 50 meters away.
“Then they couldn’t see the cat anymore and continued their walk.”
