Police name 55-year-old man shot dead in north-west London

A man shot dead in north-west London has been named as 55-year-old Simon Whyte.

Police have launched a murder investigation after a man died at the scene in West End Close, Brent Stonebridge, on Friday night, despite efforts by police and paramedics to save his life.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Specialist Crime Squad are now appealing for witnesses to be notified and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

They specifically want to hear from a small group of people who were gathered nearby when the incident occurred.

Police were called to the scene at 9.35pm on Friday night after reports of a shooting, police provided emergency first aid and the London Ambulance Service also attended the scene.

There were no arrests as of Sunday afternoon.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, of the Met’s Specialist Crime Squad, who is leading the investigation, said: “Firstly, our thoughts are with Simon’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

“Investigations are ongoing and my team is working rapidly to establish the circumstances that led to his tragic death.

“There is no doubt that this incident will cause concern in the local community and wider, but we have increased patrols in the area. I would like to reassure the public that our investigation remains a priority.”

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that would assist us with our investigations, including dashcam footage, to contact us at the earliest opportunity.

“We also believe a large group of people were gathered nearby when the incident occurred and we would very much like to hear from them.”
