VB-G RAM G – no measure of reform, says Thannatchi

:

The Viksit Bharat – Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission Guarantee (Gramin or VB-G RAM G) law, which replaced the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), is not a measure of reform, according to Thannatchi, a non-governmental organization specializing in issues related to local bodies.

Terming the repeal of MGNREGA as an “autocratic act” that usurped the democratic and Constitutional rights of workers that had been achieved after years of efforts, the non-governmental organization claimed that it has become clear that the Union government wants to “take away” the rights of the people instead of eliminating practical difficulties and strengthening the old law.

Thannatchi demanded that MGNREGA be retained and the VB-G RAM G bill be withdrawn. It also appealed to the State government to take legal steps for the implementation of MGNREGA in Tamil Nadu and called for protests through constitutional means until the new law is withdrawn.
