Fire breaks out in York County shopping center, no injuries reported
YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A fire broke out at a shopping mall in the 3300 block of Hampton Highway in the Tabb area of York County around 5:40 pm Saturday evening.
Emergency personnel from the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety responded to the incident.
The Langley Air Force Base Fire Department was first on the scene, encountering flames and heavy smoke in a section of the laundromat not generally used by the public.
In addition to fire damage to the laundromat, the fire also caused minor smoke damage to two storefronts, including the public laundromat and an adjacent vacant store. No injuries were reported.
Fire crews cut off the building’s electricity and natural gas connections as a safety precaution.
Crews overhauled the facility to ensure there were no hidden embers or fires in the walls or ceilings.

Mutual aid assistance was provided by Newport News Fire Departments, Hampton Fire and Rescue, Poquoson Fire and Rescue and Langley AFB Fire Department.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
