A student and teacher injured in a dog attack in front of an elementary school in Alabama are receiving treatment.

On Tuesday, Dec. 16, Landin Williamson was attacked by two dogs as he ran toward Collins-Rhodes Elementary School in Prichard after being dropped off by his mother. Fox 10 News reported.

“I think he triggered the dog, grabbed it and knocked it to the ground,” said Alexis Ware, the nine-year-old student’s mother. Williamson suffered multiple bites that required eight stitches.

Third-grade teacher Sierra Allen had parked her car in front of the elementary school when two dogs “suddenly attacked” her.

“They were biting me and biting me and jumping on me,” Allen told Fox 10 News. “They bit my UGG boots, they bit my pants. I have scars on my legs and thighs. They’re awful to look at; it’s a constant reminder of what happened a week ago today.”

According to Fox 10 News, Allen was bitten on his legs before a group of parents dropping off their children at school intervened to save him from the dogs.

“They were attacking my face and neck. I want to thank the families. If it wasn’t for them, I probably wouldn’t be here today,” Allen said.

After Allen and Landin were transported to the hospital, police officers and animal control arrived at the scene, Fox 10 News reported.

The elementary school first sent an email to parents stating that the dogs had attacked two students and a teacher. But the City of Prichard later clarified that it was just a student and a teacher, adding that the victims suffered “minor” injuries, disputes Allen’s claim.

“I can’t walk for long without my left knee swelling,” Allen told Fox 10 News. “I’ve never had a problem like this before. The bite marks on my right thigh where the teeth went through are still knotted and bruised.”

According to Fox 10 News, the two dogs belonged to the same owner. Following the incident, they were given a 10-day mandatory quarantine notice.

According to Fox 10 News, Allen claims that after the attacks, the dog owner said, “I don’t know where the dogs are.” “These dogs are not trained to be around people. They are very dangerous and need to be caught,” he added.

The Mobile County Health Department’s Rabies Division is investigating the incidents.

The attacks prompted Allen to consider quitting his job, and Landin was now “scared” of dogs, his mother said KOLD. “He is terrified. He wakes up at night screaming,” he said.

PEOPLE has contacted the City of Prichard and the Mobile County Health Department’s Rabies Division for comment.
