One person in custody after attack on JD Vance’s Ohio home, officials say | JD Vance

Authorities in Ohio said Monday that a person is in custody following an overnight attack on J.D. Vance’s home that left windows shattered.

According to the statement made by the US Secret Service, the US vice president was not at his home in Cincinnati at the time.

The agency said an adult male was arrested shortly after midnight “for causing property damage, including breaking windows on the exterior of a personal residence associated with the vice president.”CNN reported.

“The U.S. Secret Service is coordinating with the Cincinnati Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office as charging decisions are reviewed,” spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said, according to the outlet.

Cincinnati news channel WLWT He said Secret Service agents and Cincinnati police spent several hours at the home in the East Walnut Hills neighborhood after responding to reports of damage to windows.

Two unnamed law enforcement sources told The Associated Press that Secret Service agents heard a loud noise at the home around midnight and found a person breaking a window with a hammer and trying to enter the home. The man also damaged a Secret Service vehicle as he drove into the home’s driveway, one of the officials said.

Vance spent last week at the house overlooking the Ohio River but left Sunday afternoon, WLWT reported. The channel posted a photo on its website showing damage to at least four glass panels of what appears to be a ground floor window.

While Vance, as vice president, enjoys 24-hour personal protection from the Secret Service, the level of security provided at his private residence varies depending on travel plans.

Following the killing of Minnesota state lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband in their Minneapolis home in June 2025 and the attack on another Democratic lawmaker and her wife in the city the same night, many politicians took steps to increase security.

In October 2024, a man was sentenced to 30 years in prison for attacking Paul Pelosi, husband of Democratic former House speaker Nancy Pelosi, with a hammer at their California home.
