Karl Stefanovic to break silence on TV axing in new Piers Morgan interview at 6pm on Wednesday

Karl Stefanovic has announced that he is about to “break his silence” in a new interview with Piers Morgan.
It came just hours after it was reported that he had lost his radio job with Eddie McGuire and just weeks after he left the Nine Network following controversy around a podcast interview.
Stefanovic captioned a video posted on X: “Karl breaks his silence. Piers Morgan 18:00 (probably AEST).”
The video was recorded just hours after a promotional clip for his podcast The Karl Stefanovic and news broke that he had been fired from the Today Show last week.
Morgan begins by saying, “This is the interview I never thought I’d do.”
“Life is funny,” Stefanovic replied.
“Are we going to act like we’re going to do the interview now where you’re going to interview me about life after the morning shows?” Morgan said.
“Because that seems kind of ridiculous, Karl, because you’ve literally been fired in the last few hours. What happened?” asked Stefanovic.
“So…” Stefanovic responded before the clip ended.
Earlier on Wednesday it was revealed that ARN had sacked the embattled former broadcaster from his still-new radio presenting job.
Stefanovic co-hosted the network’s weekly Friday show The Long Weekend, which aired on Pure Gold, alongside Eddie McGuire.
Stefanovic is not expected to return, according to reports from the Sydney Morning Herald and Australian Financial Review. McGuire had previously said Stefanovic would sit in the presidential chair this Friday and talk about his experiences over the last few weeks.
The deal is reportedly worth about $200,000 for the remainder of the year. McGuire is expected to continue hosting the program, which may now be reshaped around him.
Stefanovic and McGuire had only recorded two episodes before Stefanovic’s absence last week amid disagreements over her softball “interview” with three-time convicted felon and far-right British anti-immigration agitator Tommy Robinson.
Stefanovic featured Robinson on The Karl Stefanovic Show, an independent podcast he launched at the beginning of the year, unrelated to his long-time job as host of Nine’s breakfast show Today.
Stefanovic was criticized for his positive treatment of such a divisive figure. In the hour-long interview, Stefanovic physically embraced Robinson, who has convictions including assault and fraud, and told the agitator he admired him for his “courage” and “perseverance”.
After days of discussions, Stefanovic and Nine agreed to end his decades-long tenure at the TV network with immediate effect. The terms of his departure from Nine, where he has $1 million left on his contract for the remainder of 2026, are not yet known.
Nightly has reached out to Stefanovic’s manager and ARN for comment.
