Delhi AQI remains ‘poor’, shallow fog observed

According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board’s Sameer app, Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘poor’ category with an average Air Quality Index (AQI) value of 293 in the morning hours on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
Station-wise data showed that Chandni Chowk recorded the worst air quality at 352 in the ‘very poor’ category. While 20 stations recorded ‘very poor’ air quality, 15 stations were in the ‘poor’ category and two stations recorded ‘fair’ air quality.
According to the CPCB classification, an AQI of 0 to 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 to 100 is ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 is ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 is ‘poor’, 301 to 400 is ‘very poor’ and 401 to 500 is ‘severe’.
On Monday, January 5, 2026, the city’s 24-hour average AQI was 244, in the ‘poor’ category.
The Air Quality Early Warning System said the weather in Delhi is expected to remain in the poor to very poor range for the next six days.
On the weather side, the minimum temperature in the morning hours was recorded as 7.6 degrees Celsius, 0.7 degrees above the seasonal average, while shallow fog was observed in some parts of the city.
The maximum temperature in the capital is expected to be around 18 degrees Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department said that the relative humidity level was observed at 100% in some parts of the city in the morning.
Station-wise data showed that Safdarjung, Lodhi Road, Ridge and Ayanagar recorded a minimum temperature of 7.6 degrees Celsius, while Palam recorded a slightly lower minimum temperature of 6.5 degrees Celsius.
