Snow LIVE: Storm Goretti sparks ‘multi-hazard’ event concerns as bitter cold grips UK | Weather | News

As heavy snowfall continues to affect parts of the UK, particularly Scotland, the Met Office has warned that the approaching Storm Goretti could cause a “multi-hazard event” as it hits the country later this week. Met Office Deputy Director-General Forecaster Chris Bulmer said: “A deepening area of low pressure – dubbed Storm Goretti by Meteo France – will move across the south of the UK on Thursday and into Friday. It will collide with the very cold air here, meaning Thursday night could be what we call a ‘multi-hazard’ event, with snow on the northern flank of the lowlands and wind and rain on the southern flank. Therefore, heavy snowfall could lead to disruption and difficult conditions across parts of England and Wales.” We have issued a yellow warning for snow for parts of the region.
“The strong winds associated with Storm Goretti may also cause some disruption and so a yellow wind warning has also been issued for south-west England. The exact path of the low is still uncertain and these warnings are likely to be changed and potentially increased in the coming days. So it is vital that people are aware of the latest forecasts.” Storm Goretti is expected to hit later in the week and bring strong winds to parts of South West England on Thursday. The yellow warning will be in force in Cornwall, Devon and the Isles of Scilly from 15.00 to 23.59. The adverse weather forecast is coming from France and official forecaster Météo France is naming the storm.
