Shelley Beach Park to receive CCTV after reports of serious vandalism and dangerous behaviour

Canning staff are investigating reports from residents about dangerous, anti-social behavior and vandalism at Shelley Beach Park.

The city has received numerous reports over the past two years about fires, sharp objects being left lying around and vandalism of public restrooms in the park.

Mayor Patrick Hall said the city responded to community feedback and implemented mobile security cameras on May 1 as an interim measure.

Products such as paper towels were removed from bathrooms to reduce the risk of fire.

“The city responded to reports of vandalism at the Shelley Beach Park toilet block, including obstruction of standing toilets and urinals, damage to paper towel dispensers and failure to dispose of sharps safely,” he said.

“The city’s community safety service team takes reports of vandalism seriously and responds quickly when reports are made, increasing day and night patrols in the area.”

“Permanent CCTV infrastructure work at Shelley Beach Park has begun with the installation of eight cameras on site, which will provide 12 lines of sight around the area to help reduce future incidents.”

The project is funded by Tangney MP Sam Lim’s 2025 election pledge.

Councilor Ben Kunze urged locals to come forward if they witness any vandalism via a Facebook post.

“A spate of anti-social behavior at the Shelley Beach Park toilet block is being addressed by Canning staff, but we need your help to stop this – we can’t do this on our own,” he wrote.

“If you have any information regarding these incidents please contact the City of Canning on 1300 422 664.”

Any anti-social behavior should also be reported directly to the police.
