West Ham: ‘An impossible task?’ Ten-game winless run leaves Nuno Espirito Santo’s side facing drop

The statistics make grim reading.

With four draws and six losses, West Ham failed to win 10 Premier League games for the first time since a run of 11 matches between December 2006 and March 2007.

With just 16 points, Bournemouth have given up more top-flight points from winning positions than the Hammers’ 15, while West Ham have also failed to win when scoring first in any of their last five matches.

Nuno Espirito Santo, the coach who guided Nottingham Forest to Europe last season and was sent off for three games in 2025-26, has collected 11 points from 16 games since replacing Graham Potter, who was sacked in September.

This is the worst start for any West Ham manager in the Premier League era; Back-to-back wins against Newcastle and Burnley in November (Nuno’s only two successes) are fast fading from memory.

Speaking on Sky Sports, former West Ham and England goalkeeper Rob Green thinks change is needed at the London Stadium.

“After 10 games without a win, you wonder where the answer is now? Where do West Ham go now? Where does Nuno go from here? With results like this you can’t see things going on for much longer,” Green said.

“They need at least 30 points to have any chance of survival and they won’t get close at that rate.

“I don’t think Nuno will stay. I can’t understand how he can go this long without winning a game. “It wasn’t the worst performance by far tonight and they still haven’t gotten a result.

“It’s heartbreaking, but I don’t see any other answer. It seems like an increasingly impossible task.”
