Meghan Markle to visit UK for the first time in four years for Invictus Games event

The Duchess of Sussex is expected to make her first visit to the UK in four years for an Invictus Games event.

Meghan will join her husband, the Duke of Sussex, at the event in Birmingham, but only if the couple’s right to armed police protection in the UK is restored. Sun on Sunday reported. It is not known whether their children will attend the event.

In May last year, the Duke of Sussex lost his case against the royal and VIP executive committee (Ravec) over the decision to remove his right to taxpayer-funded police protection after he stepped down as a working member of the royal family.

This meant the duke had to notify the Metropolitan Police 30 days before arriving in the UK to submit to a security review, which will be decided on a case-by-case basis.

As a result, he and his lawyers argued that it was not safe for Harry and his wife, Meghan, and their two young children, Lilibet and Archie, to visit the country after their 24-hour security was removed in 2020.

After losing his case in May, the duke said he was “devastated”, describing the defeat as “an old-fashioned establishment strut” and blaming the Royal Family for influencing the decision.

However, he made a request to the home secretary for a full risk assessment to be carried out, and this request was granted.

People close to the Duke of Sussex are hopeful Ravec, who makes the final decision on the level of police protection, will agree to reinstate it. Times.

The Invictus Games Foundation’s promotional events will be held in Birmingham to celebrate the one-year countdown to the 2027 Games. Representatives of nations were invited to participate.

Meghan previously attended the Invictus Games in Canada for five days last year. He also attended events in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada, in 2024 to promote subsequent years of games Harry set up for wounded soldiers.

He also took part in the ceremony of the one-year countdown to the 2022 games in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The Duchess had not visited the UK for four years when she attended Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022. Their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, have also not visited the UK for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebration since June that year.

The Duke has been estranged from the Prince of Wales since moving to the US, making accusations against the King, his stepmother the Queen, his brother the Prince of Wales and his sister-in-law the Princess of Wales in his Oprah Winfrey interview, Netflix documentary, interviews and his autobiography Spare.

Harry had previously expressed hope for reconciliation with his family because he believed they would never be able to forgive him following his public accusations. He also visited England last September and claimed to have taken a step towards improving family relations by holding a private meeting with his father in London.
