The start of the month looks set to be a chilling one as much of the UK looks set to be blanketed in snow as the latest cold front sweeps across the country. The worst-hit areas are on track to be hit by a whopping 58cm snowstorm.
New WXCHARTS snow weather maps are turning purple and white, indicating heavy snowfall is approaching. The latest maps show snow and extremely cold weather forming by Sunday 1 February, with wintry conditions moving southwards across Scotland before spreading into England and Wales. It looks like the brutal weather will have no mercy as snow will fall as far south as Sussex and Devon.
At midnight on February 1, Tayside in Scotland could be covered in a whopping 58cm of snow. Things won’t be much better in Central Scotland either, where a whopping 20cm of snow will fall.
Snow depth will decrease slightly in Argyll and Bute, reaching 7cm. Meanwhile, Yorkshire and the Humber will see some more snow, with weather maps predicting 8cm of snow.
Elsewhere, key cities in the North East, including Newcastle and Middlesbrough, will see snow depths reach 5cm. In Cumbria, snow depth will be seen to reach between 4cm-5cm.
While the snow depth will reach 5 cm in North Wales, 2 cm-4 cm of snowfall will be seen in Central and South Wales.
The south of England will not be exempt from heavy snow, with snowfall forecast in both Sussex and Kent. Devon will see snow depths reach around 5cm.
Temperatures will also drop well below zero; In Stirling, Scotland, the mercury is predicted to drop to -9°C. Temperatures will be -7C in Argyll and Bute and Perth and Kinross.
It won’t be much warmer in the Scottish Highlands, where temperatures are forecast to be -5C, while in the North East and North West the mercury will hover between -2C and -1C.
Temperatures will be -2C in North and Mid Wales, and -2C in Yorkshire and the Humber. Elsewhere, it will be a bone-chilling -1C in South Wales.
