Trump may offer ‘every person in Greenland $1m’ as US bribe | US | News

The $1 million offered would equal roughly £750,000 or 850,000 euros per person if they voted to become part of the United States.

But compared to the massive £595bn the US has allocated to its defense budget, Trump may view this as a relatively small outlay.

This news comes after the President announced on Wednesday, January 22 that he was withdrawing his threat to impose tariffs on eight European countries in order to ensure US sovereignty over Greenland.

This marked a significant U-turn following his previous insistence on obtaining full rights and ownership of the island.

Trump announced in a social media post that he had reached an agreement with the NATO chief on “the framework for a future agreement” on Arctic security, potentially easing tensions that have far-reaching geopolitical implications.

He also noted that “additional discussions” regarding the Golden Dome missile defense program are ongoing. This ambitious $175 billion initiative will enable US weapons to be placed in space for the first time.

In his speech, Trump stated that he wanted a “cold and poorly located” region and that the USA essentially saved Europe during World War II, and said about NATO: “This is a very small request compared to what we have given them for decades.”

“We probably won’t achieve anything unless I decide to use extreme force and force, in which case we are frankly unstoppable. But I’m not going to do that, okay?”.
