Tim Walz begs Donald Trump to pull federal agents from Minnesota after second immigration protester is shot dead in weeks – as he blasts letter setting conditions for ICE to leave

Gov. Tim Walz implored President Donald Trump to withdraw federal agents from Minnesota after a second immigration protester was shot and killed by officers this month.

‘What’s the plan, Donald? ‘What do we need to do to get these federal agents out of our state?’ Walz made his defense following the death of 37-year-old Alex Pretti on Sunday.

Pretti was shot and killed in broad daylight by a Border Patrol agent during a targeted immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis on Saturday.

He was killed just weeks after Renee Good, 37, was shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer less than a mile away.

‘President Trump, you can end this today. Withdraw these people, carry out humane, focused, effective immigration control; you have all of our support to do this,” Walz implored. ‘Show some kindness. ‘Get these people out.’

He also addressed the American people directly, urging them to condemn Trump’s crackdown on immigrants and the killing of civilians by federal officers.

‘Which side do you want to be on?’ Walz asked. ‘He’s on the side of an all-powerful federal government that can kill, injure, threaten and kidnap citizens off the streets, or on the side of a nurse at the VA who died while testifying against that government.’

The governor’s call comes amid a battle with Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi, who set out in a letter Saturday conditions that must be met before Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers are withdrawn from Minnesota.

Walz spoke directly to Trump in his public speech Sunday, criticizing the administration’s continued presence in Minnesota.

‘You thought that what you wanted from us was fear, violence and chaos, and you clearly underestimated the people of this state and nation,’ he said.

‘We are tired but we are determined. “We are at peace, but we will never forget,” he continued. ‘We are angry but we will not give up hope and above all we are clearly united.’

He said Trump was trying to ‘set an example for Minnesota’ but was proud of his state for standing up to the administration.

‘We believe in law and order in this state. ‘We believe in peace in this state, and we believe Donald Trump should remove these 3,000 untrained agents from Minnesota before they kill anyone else.’

During the press conference, Walz compared America’s immigration laws to Nazi Germany and said: ‘Many of us grew up reading the story of Anne Frank. Someone’s going to write that children’s story about Minnesota.’

Trump seemingly responded to the call, but further strengthened his claim that Somali immigrants in Minneapolis were committing a massive fraud.

‘Minnesota is a Criminal Cover-up for massive ongoing Financial Fraud!’ While Walz’s press conference was continuing, he shared on the Truth Social platform.

Trump deployed thousands of federal immigration agents to heavily Democratic Minneapolis for weeks after conservative media reported the alleged fraud.

Minneapolis is one of the places with the highest concentration of Somali immigrants in the country.

The governor’s call comes just a day after Bondi sent him a letter urging the Minnesota government to “fully cooperate” with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In a three-page letter to Walz, he accused state officials of “anti-law enforcement rhetoric” and “endangering federal agents.”

He called on the governor to “remove sanctuary policies” in Minnesota and demanded that “all detention facilities” in the state “fully cooperate with ICE” and “respect detention officers.”

Bondi also requested that Minnesota grant the Department of Justice (DOJ) access to voter rolls to ‘verify that Minnesota’s voter registration practices comply with federal law.’

“I believe these simple steps will help restore law and order in Minnesota and improve the lives of Americans,” Bondi added.

Walz responded to the allegations in Bondi’s letter at a press conference on Sunday, saying they were “false” and “inaccurate.” He also implied that ICE had overstepped its authority in Minnesota.

‘It’s their job to do Immigration and Customs Enforcement,’ the governor said. ‘In Minnesota, law enforcement is the job of law enforcement.’

He added: ‘We won’t do your job for you. ‘We have other things to do.’

He also accused the Trump administration of launching a smear campaign against Pretti, who federal officials say wants to “massacre law enforcement.”

“You know what you saw,” Walz said, before accusing Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance and other senior officials of “smearing his name within minutes of this happening.”

‘This is a turning point, America. “If we can’t all agree that an American citizen should be vilified, everything he stands for is denigrated, and we are asked not to believe what we see, I don’t know what else to tell you,” Walz said.

Walz claimed that he spoke to Pretti’s heartbroken family and that they want Americans to continue fighting for him.

‘The heartache in the hours after your son was murdered in front of the world is one thing, but what stood out to me was a parent’s desire and passion to make sure Alex’s story was told,’ Walz said of Pretti’s parents.

The nurse’s father claimed Michael told him: ‘Don’t let them forget Alex’s story.’

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said Pretti was shot after he ‘approached’ Border Patrol agents with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem claimed the officers “clearly feared for their lives” and fired defensively at Pretti, who “violently” resisted federal agents.

Federal authorities claimed the intensive care unit nurse was carrying a loaded Sig Sauer P320 9mm handgun, but video taken at the scene appears to show officers disarming her before gunshots were heard.

Minneapolis police said Pretti had no serious criminal history and was a legal gun owner with a valid permit.

Walz also revealed that he had spoken to the heartbroken family of Alex Pretti, who allegedly wanted Americans to continue fighting for him.

Videos after Pretti was disarmed do not clearly show where the first shot came from, but a weapons expert said he believed Pretti’s Sig Sauer P320 exploded in one agent’s hand, prompting another agent to open fire.

Multiple eyewitness videos show a Border Patrol agent shooting and killing Pretti after a fight of about 30 seconds around 9 a.m. Saturday.

The videos appear to contradict statements from DHS, which said the shots were fired ‘defensively’ because Pretti was ‘approaching’ Pretti with a gun.

In the videos, Pretti can be seen holding only a phone. None of the footage shows him with a gun.

During the struggle, agents noticed the man was carrying a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun and fired several shots.

Federal officials did not identify the agent but confirmed the agent’s identity. The officer who shot Pretti is an eight-year Border Patrol veteran.

Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino, who oversees the administration’s big-city immigration campaign, said the officer who shot Pretti had extensive training as a range safety officer and in using less lethal force.

A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order prohibiting the Trump administration from “destroying or altering evidence” related to Pretti’s death.

It has not been confirmed whether Pretti’s gun fired any shots.
