Edinburgh and Glasgow top London as UK’s nightlife hotspots, Uber data shows | Edinburgh

According to Uber’s data on late-night rides, Edinburgh and Glasgow have a busier nightlife than London.

The global ride-hailing app analyzed millions of journeys and takeaway deliveries across the UK’s biggest cities and found Edinburgh had the highest proportion of journeys made between 10pm and 4am.

The most popular venue late at night was Cabaret Voltaire.

Since 1987, Glasgow has been the city with the second highest demand for late-night journeys to and from the Sub Club, the world-famous basement venue.

London came third with the most popular nightlife venue, Fabric. Cardiff also featured in the top 10, with Clwb Ifor Bach taking the title of most in-demand nightlife venue.

Separate data from rival taxi app Bolt late last year showed a 15% increase in night-time activity in 2025 compared to the previous year, with the peak time for going out shifting from 11pm to midnight on Saturdays.

The Music Venue Trust suggested earlier this week that there are reasons to be cheerful after bleak years for grassroots music venues in 2023 and 2024. Its annual report revealed that almost as many venues had opened or been revived as there were closed; This is an improvement over recent years.

The number of nightclubs in the UK has more than halved between 2013 and 2024, from 1,700 to 787, driven by the pandemic, regulatory changes and the cost of living crisis.

Uber’s data shows that eight of the top 10 most requested destinations in the country are train stations, but attractions such as London’s Hyde Park, Edinburgh Castle and Liverpool’s The Beatles Story museum are also in high demand.

Data from Uber Eats showed that major cities and university centers such as Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds are a hive for late-night deliveries, with orders most likely between 10pm and 4am.

Chinese food remained the most searched food on the app in 2025, but searches for sushi, pizza and Thai food more than doubled from the previous year.

The matcha craze, which emerged as searches for the Japanese green tea powder drink increased by 700% in 2025 compared to the previous year, was one of the emerging trends, as reflected in the application’s data.
