NFL news: Rams’ Sean McVay upset with question about Matthew Stafford

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay didn’t have time to field questions about Matthew Stafford’s NFL future following Sunday’s close NFC Championship loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Stafford, 37, was 22-of-35 for 374 passing yards and three touchdowns as Los Angeles lost 31-27 to Seattle and missed out on a chance to make Super Bowl LX against the New England Patriots.

McVay was asked at the post-game press conference if he thought Stafford would return for the 2026 season.
“If he still wants to play. What kind of question is that?” McVay retreated. “We were totally there. I know he’s still playing at a pretty good clip if he wants to be.
“I mean, he’s the league MVP. If he’s not, I respect everybody, but this guy played at a whole different level.”

Stafford and McVay won a Super Bowl with the Rams to cap off the 2021 season with the Rams; First time with the Rams. Fans thought he might retire soon, so they traded him to Jared Goff from the Detroit Lions.
However, he continued to play as one of the best point guards in the league.
He led the NFL with 4,707 passing yards and 46 touchdowns in 2025. He surpassed 4,000 passing yards and 40 touchdowns for the first time since the 2021 season. He also earned his third Pro Bowl nomination.
