Pending Adilabad Poll Results, Congress, BJP Protect Their Contestants In Camps

ADILABAD: The BJP and Congress parties on Thursday shifted their candidates contesting from 49 districts in the Adilabad municipal elections to camps whose locations are not yet known.

The results of the municipal elections will be announced on Friday. Both parties, which are claimed to be favorites, want to avoid possible poaching of winning candidates by their rivals.

Sources say that the candidates who lost the election will return home from the camps after the municipal election results are announced. Winning candidates will continue to stay in the camps. They will go directly from the camps to the Adilabad municipality to prove their majority.

This move was necessary as both the BJP and the Congress were internally unsure of securing a majority on their own to win the Adilabad mayoral post. The two parties will need to gain support from others, including independent candidates.

The news is that Congress wants AIMIM to support it in securing the Adilabad mayoral post.

The BJP is also exploring an alternative option of convincing independents, in particular, to win the chairmanship post in case it fails to win the required number of ward councilors for a clear majority.
