UK weather: Warnings for snow and ice as temperatures to plummet

A yellow warning for snow and ice will remain in place for Scotland on Thursday night until Friday. A few centimeters of snow can be expected even on low-lying roads from Friday morning.
It may be up to 2 to 5 cm on hills above 300 m, and up to 10 cm is also possible in places.
In addition to snow, icing will also pose a danger.
A second yellow warning for snow and ice also applies for Northern England and the North Midlands. Snow will fall at low levels here, but it is not expected to fall below 200 meters. These high levels may see 2 to 5cm, with a few locations above 300m expected to see up to 10cm.
This is likely to cause disruption to routes across the Pennines and into Derbyshire and Cumbria. The combination of snow and ice can lead to hazardous conditions on untreated roads and sidewalks as temperatures drop below freezing overnight.
Saturday will start cold and frosty with some sunshine across the UK, making it the driest day for a long time.
However, Saturday night and Sunday bring the risk of renewed snow at fairly broad and even low levels. Keep checking the BBC Weather website and app for the latest details.
