BJP, Congress stage competing protests against each other in Jaipur

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Opposition Congress staged massive, competing protests against each other on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, trying to lay siege to the rival party headquarters with conflicting claims about the ongoing events here in New Delhi. Heavy police deployment was made on the roads to stop the march of the two parties.

The BJP took out a march to lay siege to the headquarters of the Pradesh Congress Committee on Sansar Chandra Road, alleging that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had violated constitutional etiquette during the Opposition’s protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence in New Delhi.

Police stopped the march led by state BJP president Madan Rathore by setting up barricades and used water cannon to disperse party workers who tried to advance and got into an argument with security personnel. Mr Rathore criticized the Congress’s political demonstrations and said the people would not tolerate Mr Gandhi’s “dishonorable behaviour”.

Congress leaders, on the other hand, rejected the BJP’s march, calling it “courageous though wrong” and announced a counter march to lay siege to the BJP’s State headquarters on Sardar Patel Marg. The Congress’ protest in the evening increased political tension in the state capital.

Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, PCC chief Govind Singh Dotasra, Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully and former Minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas attended the march. Protesters shouted slogans demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET-UG paper leak issue and addressed Mr Gandhi and students in New Delhi to protest against “atrocities”.

Police stopped Congress Party workers near the Police Commissionerate; A fight broke out here and water cannons were used to disperse the protesters. While several party workers injured during the police intervention were taken to the hospital for first aid, traffic was disrupted on the main roads of the city during both marches.

The police intensified security measures throughout the city and took measures to prevent workers from the two parties from directly confronting each other and engaging in direct conflict. Heavy barricades were erected around party offices and drone surveillance was used to monitor sensitive areas as well as traffic diversions.
