Congress more ‘venomous’ after 10 years out of power in Assam: PM Modi

Addressing the workers at the BJP booth in Guwahati, Modi said, “Just as the Muslim League worked for the division of the country, the Congress has turned into a Muslim League and Maoist party and wants to divide the nation.” he said.
As Assam went to Assembly elections earlier this year, Modi compared the record of the BJP-NDA with that of the Congress. He claimed that during the 70 years of Congress rule, only three bridges were built over the Brahmaputra, while five major bridges were completed in the last 10-11 years. He added that a few more were in the pipeline and claimed that the Congress was “causing trouble in Assam” while the BJP was “offering solutions”.
Describing the Northeast as “Ashtalakshmi”, Modi said the region was neglected for decades but is now being focused on. He stated that the Union Budget emphasizes on making the Northeast economically self-reliant and claimed that Assam will get around Rs 50,000 Million from central taxes this year as compared to around Rs 10,000 Billion during the Congress period.
He said improved highways and infrastructure projects worth thousands of billions would boost employment and tourism. Referring to the recent Pariksha Pe Charcha event held on a cruise on the Brahmaputra, Modi said river tourism will be further expanded with Budget support.
Giving credit to the BJP government in Assam and its slogan “Mera Booth Sabse Majboot”, he urged party workers to protect every vote.
Paying tribute to the soldiers martyred in the Pulwama attack, Modi said India was now reacting harshly to terrorism and accused the Congress of neglecting national security and keeping the Northeast in fear and instability. Assam has benefited from major national initiatives, he said, noting that the state was among the early recipients of Vande Bharat services and recently became the starting point for the country’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train. He also touched upon emerging opportunities in the semiconductor industry.
On digital infrastructure, Modi said the BJP has ensured that 5G connectivity reaches villages in Assam and the Northeast, and contrasted this with what he described as the Congress’ failure to effectively expand 3G and 4G networks.
