India has highest level of AI skill penetration, adopted policy of avoiding over-regulation: Jitin Prasada

India’s New Delhi has the highest level of artificial intelligence (AI) skill penetration and has adopted a policy approach to avoid excessive regulation to ensure innovation thrives, Union Minister Jitin Prasada said on Monday.

Speaking at a session at the Artificial Intelligence Impact Summit, the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology said the current government is agile and listening to all ideas.

He said the government has adjusted its policies and programs according to the needs of the hour.

He added that India has the trajectory, speed and scale to offer to the world in the field of artificial intelligence.

“We have maximum AI skill penetration, we have maintained a policy of not over-regulating for innovation to thrive,” Prasada said, adding: “We are ensuring GPU access is offered at the cheapest cost possible.”

Making GPUs available at affordable prices will help young startups and future generations with the best minds and design talents.
The minister added that India does not want to compete with large models and that “we are looking at scalable models that have an impact in our country.” The minister said the country is looking at AI models that have an impact on a particular sector or region or a particular community, and “that’s where India’s focus lies.”

He said the focus is on making technology available to everyone and India wants to democratize technologies.

“But it’s not just about access to technology; we now need to go deeper and go beyond access and make sure we have scalable solutions across the board… We’re in the right position for that,” he said.
