Speaking to reporters about the incident, Police Lt. Robert Price of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said: “This is a sad and tragic incident and our hearts go out to the family.”
He said the motive for the murder was still part of the investigation.
According to police, officers received a request for a welfare check just before 11 a.m. Sunday.
“Patrol officers and security personnel at the property attempted to make contact with the two individuals,” a police press release said.
“Officers knocked on the door and called into the room several times but received no response. According to details at the time, there was no belief that either of them were in danger and the officers were cleared.”
Hotel security received additional requests to check on the mother and daughter and then entered their room around 2:27 p.m. Tawnia and Addi were found unresponsive and security called 911.
Both had apparent gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
“Based on initial evidence at the scene, detectives were able to determine that the mother first shot her daughter and then shot herself,” the statement said. The statement was included.
In a post on Facebook, Utah Xtreme Cheer wrote: “It is with the heaviest hearts that we share the devastating news that our sweet athlete Addi has passed away. We are completely heartbroken. No words can do the situation justice.”
