President Donald Trump reportedly reacted to the Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision ruling that he lacked the authority to impose sweeping tariffs under a specific emergency powers law.

A source outside the Trump administration told Fox News that an aide showed up for a closed-door breakfast with governors at the White House and handed Trump a memo about the Supreme Court decision.

Trump “called it embarrassing and then continued,” the source said.

The Supreme Court blocked Trump’s tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act in a major test of the executive branch’s authority.

Some of the Supreme Court’s nine justices will likely be sitting in the audience when the president delivers his State of the Union address on Tuesday.

In this view, the Supreme Court declared“Our task today is simply to decide whether the authority given to the President in the IEEPA to ‘regulate imports’ includes the authority to impose tariffs. It does not.”

Trump has made tariffs a key part of his economic agenda since taking back the Oval Office last year, but his policies have not gone unchallenged.

Republican reaction to the decision was mixed.

Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., criticized the high court’s decision.

“The Supreme Court has undermined the President’s ability to defend American workers. President Donald Trump was elected to fight unfair trade and prevent the United States from being ripped off. I am outraged by this decision; it is clearly a judicial overreach,” Carter said in a speech. to mail In X.

But Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., welcomed the decision.

Paul noted in a speech: “In defense of our Republic, the Supreme Court refused to use emergency powers to enact taxes. This decision would also prevent a future President like AOC from using emergency powers to enact socialism.” to mail In X.

Rep. Don Bacon, R-Neb. also welcomed the decision.

“The Constitution’s checks and balances still operate. The First Amendment gives Congress the power to impose tariffs. This was a prudent and clear decision by the Supreme Court. I feel vindicated in saying so for the past 12 months. Going forward, Congress should assert its own authority and not rely on the Supreme Court. Besides my Constitutional concerns about the administration’s broad-based tariffs, I also do not think tariffs are smart economic policy. Broad-based tariffs are bad economics.” Bacon wrote: to mail In X.
