The U.S. State Department ordered non-emergency personnel to evacuate the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, on Monday.
“The State Department has ordered non-emergency U.S. government personnel and eligible family members to leave the U.S. Embassy Beirut,” the State Department said.
The statement continued: “We continually evaluate the security environment and, based on our most recent review, have determined that it is prudent to reduce our footprint to essential personnel. The Embassy continues to operate with core personnel available. This is an interim measure intended to ensure the safety of our staff while preserving our ability to work and assist U.S. citizens.”
