Ilhan Omar Disrupts Trump’s State of the Union With Searing Message: ‘You Have Killed Americans’
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) interrupted Donald Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday evening, shouting that he was “killing Americans” while trying to antagonize Democrats on immigration by disparaging the Somali community in Minnesota.
In his speech to Congress, Trump claimed that “the first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens,” and called on Democrats in the House of Representatives “not to stand up.”
Trump scolded his political opposition, saying, “Isn’t that a shame? You should be ashamed of yourself for not standing up.”
At the State of the Union, it’s common for the president’s own party to stand and cheer while the opposition party tends to sit, as Republicans did Tuesday night.
“That’s why I’m asking you to end deadly sanctuary cities that protect criminals and impose serious penalties for public officials who prevent the elimination of criminal aliens, in many cases drug lords, murderers from across our country,” Trump continued.
He also spoke about how “members of the Somali community have pillaged” what belongs to taxpayers, and referred to them as “pirates who ransacked” the state.
Omar rejected Trump’s remarks and shouted in her speech: “You killed Americans! You should be ashamed!” Watch the heated exchange below.
Omar has long been a vocal critic of Trump and stepped up her condemnation of the president after federal agents killed Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minnesota.

Earlier Tuesday, Omar shared that she would bring as guests to Trump’s State of the Union address four Minnesota voters who she said were “severely harmed” by ICE’s actions in their state.
“We will not let the nation forget the terror Donald Trump created in Minnesota,” he wrote alongside a video of Congressman X introducing his guests.
ICE began winding down “Operation Subway Surge” in Minnesota earlier this month following mass protests and repeated criticism of the agency’s actions. Border Czar Tom Homan said at the time of the decision: “I made the offer and President Trump agreed that this expansion operation should be completed.”
