Podcast host and TikTok user Leigh McGowan, known on social media as PoliticsGirl, apologized after claiming President Donald Trump said Democrats should be “killed” during a speech on CNN on Friday.
“Also, to your point, you’re saying we voted for the government; they’re the ones who get to decide whether the AI surrenders, whether Anthropic hands over its abilities to hunt us with machines and kill us at will, and they don’t like us,” he said.
“I am constantly called a domestic terrorist by my government,” McGowan continued. “My President stood at the State of the Union and said Democrats were evil monsters who needed to be killed,” he said as the panel discussed Trump’s announcement of a plan to ban a federal ban on Anthropic AI.
Antropik CEO Dario Amodei rejected the requests Although the War Department allowed it to use its AI for “all lawful purposes,” Amodei said no, concerned about the possibility that the AI could be used for “mass domestic surveillance” or “fully autonomous weapons.”

“Oh, no, no, no. The president didn’t say that,” said conservative strategist Tim Parrish. “Wait a minute. You must be correct.”
As CNN “Newsnight” anchor Abby Phillip said, McGowan said she would be correct and began speaking again: “Let’s give him an opportunity to correct what he said.”
McGowan began: “The American government has already…”
Phillip once again urged him to correct his statement.

“He didn’t; he said we were enemies and terrible. Would you say that’s fair?” McGowan said.
Parrish said the president said Democrats were “crazy” during his State of the Union address.
“I was exaggerated and I apologize,” McGowan said.
“Well, you have to be accurate, not exaggerated,” Parrish responded.

McGowan continued to argue in favor of the Anthropic CEO’s view.
“What I’m saying is, if the man and the government that has turned half the country into an enemy – an enemy from within, domestic terrorists – if they’re already using ICE to shoot American citizens in the street, and then instead of investigating that, they give them – Alex Pretti,” Parrish said.
“Then give them control of machines that can destroy us at will and they can say, ‘Actually the machine did it and we had no control over it,’ which seems like an incredibly bad idea,” McGowan added.
Parrish asks, “What science fiction world do you live in?”
