Amazon says outage was triggered by ‘software code deployment’

AmazonThe website and shopping app were down for some users on Thursday, leaving consumers unable to make payments, access account information or view product prices.

It was seen that the problems were largely resolved by 20:00. Amazon said the incident was caused by “a software code distribution.”

“We regret that some customers may have experienced temporary issues while shopping,” Amazon spokeswoman Jennie Bryant said in a statement. “We have resolved the issue with software code distribution and the website and app are now working smoothly.”

Users also reported problems placing orders or viewing their purchase history with Amazon Fresh, the company’s grocery delivery service.

The problems emerged as the company’s cloud computing unit, Amazon Web Services, struggled to cope with outages after drone attacks damaged three data centers in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.

Iranian state media reported that Amazon’s data center in Bahrain was targeted by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps because of the company’s support for US “military and intelligence activities”.

Amazon said Thursday that its cloud services were operating normally.
