The rise and demise of Anthony Albanese’s FOI secrecy bill

The Albanian government’s FOI Amendment Bill was due to be introduced in parliament today by non-government senators, but to minimize the publicity of such a loss, the government killed the bill last Thursday, hoping to overshadow its demise by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s speech to both houses.

In opposition, Albanese placed great emphasis on transparency. Oppositions are like that. He spoke at the Chifley Research Center Conference in Sydney on 27 December 2019 and said:

“We don’t need a culture of secrecy.
