A Florida mother is facing criminal charges after police allege she left her 12-year-old daughter at a bar at Universal CityWalk Orlando and went dancing at a club after the girl asked to return to her hotel room.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said the woman, identified as 33-year-old Amanda Thorpe of Lake Mary, Fla., allegedly flew into a rage toward the child, pointed her middle finger, said “F – – – you,” and left the Shoreline Bar at Universal CityWalk without her child. arrest affidavit Reviewed by PEOPLE.
Thorpe was arrested on Saturday, March 7, and jailed on suspicion of child neglect. He was given a $2,500 cash bond and released, according to online court records.
The incident unfolded just before 10:30 p.m. on the day Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the Shoreline Bar at Universal CityWalk about a missing child, according to the affidavit.
Deputies said they quickly found the girl, who was “visibly upset, crying, and sitting alone on a barstool next to the bar.” The girl allegedly said she was at the bar with her mother, who was “already drunk.”
Another customer allegedly said something that upset Thorpe, who said he wanted to go to the Red Coconut Club, also at Universal CityWalk, according to the affidavit.
When the girl told her mother she wanted to go back to her hotel room because she was tired, Thorpe cursed at her and left her at Shoreline, deputies allege.
Another customer caught the attention of the bartender at Shoreline, who called Universal Security.
Thorpe was located by authorities at the Red Coconut Club, and he was on the dance floor with an alcoholic beverage in his hand, according to the affidavit.

Thorpe allegedly told deputies he had no idea his daughter was missing and believed she “was with her the whole time,” according to the affidavit.
He also allegedly said his daughter was in the hotel room and not at Universal CityWalk.
Thorpe then “spontaneously expressed confusion as to why he might go to jail as he had done this before,” the affidavit states.
The deputy said that while talking to Thorpe, he observed “red, bloodshot eyes” and his body showed “uncontrollable swaying and instability while walking,” which signaled to him that he was intoxicated.
Thorpe’s attorney did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
