Sergeant Joshua Bliss, of Wiltshire Police, said: “This was an extremely high-profile case; the victim was incredibly defenseless and had no way of protecting himself or escaping this vicious and unprovoked attack.”
The force said it was called in the same day as the attack. Nomicas was arrested following what police described as a “swift” investigation, which included officers reviewing CCTV.
Sgt Bliss said the woman was sitting in Salisbury town center with her dog Lance, minding her own business and just trying to keep warm, when Nomicas launched her attack.

“The suspect was unknown to the victim and only two hours after the investigation began, CID detectives and neighborhood officers identified and located the culprit.”
He said the woman described Nomicas as a coward in her account, and everyone involved in the police investigation shared her view.
The officer added: “This court outcome must send a clear message – if you are someone who preys on the most vulnerable and vulnerable members of our community, we will pursue you swiftly and bring you to justice.”
