Teen dead, three injured after alleged carjacking ends in horror crash
A teenage boy has died and three others have been injured after an allegedly stolen car crashed into three people and then rolled on a main road in Melbourne’s south-west.
Emergency services were called to Hoppers Crossing just after midnight on Friday following reports of the crash.
Police said a gray Skoda sedan followed the Toyota sedan “in what appeared to be an attempted carjacking along Derrimut Rd.”
The Skoda then crashed into the rear of the Toyota, but the occupants were uninjured.
Shortly afterwards, the Skoda hit two more vehicles – a Ford sedan and a Ford Ranger – before rolling down the street. The young man in the vehicle died at the scene.
Three other teens, including a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl from the Wyndham area, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. They remain under police protection.
A second 16-year-old girl was also taken to hospital with minor injuries but was later discharged and is expected to be interviewed by police on Friday.
The passengers of the Toyota and both Fords suffered minor injuries, police said.
“Checks revealed the Skoda had been stolen from an address in Yellow Box Street, Maidstone, between 11 and 12 March,” police said.
“Derrimut Road between Hogans and Heaths roads is expected to be closed to both northbound and southbound traffic until later today.”
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam/CCTV footage is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
