Iran’s Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi says conversation between Indian and Iranian leadership ‘successful’

New Delhi: Iran’s Supreme Leader’s Representative in India Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi said leaders of India and Iran had a “good and successful” meeting amid the evolving security situation in West Asia.

Speaking to about the conflict, he underlined that Iran, while it did not start the war, will sacrifice everything it has for their “dignity and land”.

Speaking on Friday, Ilahi said, “Iran did not start this war. Iran was negotiating with the USA and was also making diplomatic efforts. Both delegations were very happy with the progress in the negotiations. However, it is not clear what happened. Suddenly, the USA, together with the Zionist regime, attacked Iran and targeted many civilians in Iran. We hope that we will win in this war and sacrifice everything for our honor and land.”

When asked about the meeting between Indian and Iranian leaders, Ilahi said it was successful.


“This conversation was very good, successful and I am sure that many achievements have been made based on this conversation. We have sent many reports to Iran that all our Indian brothers, regardless of religion, support Iran, support justice, because this land (India) is the land of justice, wisdom, culture and civilization. They are students of Gandhi and Gandhi was just. I am sure that we will achieve many successes based on our relationship, our cooperation and our relationship will be deeper.” added.
This came after External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar held another meeting with his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi and discussed bilateral issues and BRICS-related issues. In a post on X, Jaishankar said, “We had another meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi last night. We discussed bilateral issues as well as BRICS related issues.”

This was the fourth meeting between the two leaders since the current round of conflict between the United States and Israel on the one hand and Iran on the other.

Jaishankar discussed the issue of shipping safety and energy security in his earlier meeting with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a press conference.

Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the discussion focused on ensuring safe passage of ships and maintaining stable energy supply in the region.

“EAM and Iran’s Foreign Minister had three meetings in the last few days. The last one discussed issues related to shipping safety and India’s energy security. Beyond that, it would be premature for me to say anything,” Jaiswal said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian to discuss the deteriorating security situation in the Gulf region amid the ongoing US-backed conflict in West Asia involving Iran and Israel.

In a post on X, PM Modi said he expressed deep concern over the escalation of tensions, especially the loss of civilian lives and damage to civilian infrastructure in the region.

“We met with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss the serious situation in the region. He expressed deep concern about the escalation of tensions, loss of civilian lives and damage to civilian infrastructure.” he said.

The Prime Minister also underlined that the safety and security of Indian citizens remains a key priority for the government. He noted that ensuring unhindered passage of goods and energy resources is equally important for India.

“The safety and security of Indian citizens and the need for unhindered transit of goods and energy remain India’s top priorities.” he added.

The Prime Minister asserted that India remains committed to peace and stability and emphasized the need for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the crisis.

Prime Minister Modi “reiterated India’s commitment to peace and stability and called for dialogue and diplomacy.” he said.

Meanwhile, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed serious concerns about the increasing crisis in West Asia and warned that the situation poses a major threat to global peace and security.

In a post on X, Guterres said the resulting conflict was causing great suffering for civilians and called on all parties to de-escalate tensions and move towards dialogue.

Calling for an immediate end to hostilities, the UN chief emphasized that diplomacy remains the only valid way forward.

Guterres said, “De-escalation and dialogue are the only way out,” and called on all parties to stop hostilities, comply with international law, protect civilians and return to negotiations immediately.
