Duke and Duchess of Sussex hit back at ‘deranged’ author’s claims in new book | Prince Harry

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have launched a scathing attack on a “deranged” author who claimed in his new book that Queen Camilla once called a friend “Meghan’s brainwashed Harry”.

The royal couple harshly criticized Tom Bower, author of Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family, criticizing his “fixation” on the couple.

Excerpts from the book, which will be published later this month, also claim the Prince and Princess of Wales viewed Meghan as a “threat” as tensions rose ahead of the Sussexes’ decision to move from England to the US.

On Saturday, the Sussexes released a statement responding to the allegations in the book, saying Bower’s “comment has long crossed the line into criticism into obsession.”

They added: “This is someone publicly stating that ‘the monarchy is actually committed to erasing the Sussexes from our living situation’, language that speaks for itself.

“He’s made a career out of building increasingly elaborate theories about people he doesn’t know and has never met. Those interested in facts will look elsewhere; those looking for deranged conspiracy and melodrama know exactly where to find him.”

In excerpts published on Friday, the book also appears to suggest that Harry was “shocked” by the downfall of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor following the revelation of his relationship with convicted American financier Jeffrey Epstein.

“Andrew’s unexpected and unimaginable humiliation shocked Harry,” Bower wrote. “Harry rightly fears that a future King William could strip him of all his Sussex titles and effectively exile him from Britain.”

The book also claims that at a teatime reconciliation meeting held shortly after the Sussexes returned from their honeymoon in 2018, which “got out of control”, Megan told William: “Get your finger out of my face if you don’t mind.”

Bower also writes about the duo’s Netflix deal and Harry’s participation in the 2025 Invictus Games, which he founded for wounded, wounded and ill military personnel and veterans, dubbing it the “Meghan Games.” Following the perception that the couple’s deal with the publishing company had fallen through, she claims: “Harry admitted: [Meghan] can be a star in the sports tournament.”

In one quote, Bower quotes two Canadian managers who were “angry at the aggressive Sussexes” being expelled from the games. They claimed that “Meghan was distracting injured veterans.”

Harry continued his fight against the media this year. In January he accused the Daily Mail publisher of wanting to “push him into drugs and drink” by putting his life under surveillance, as he told the high court he continued to “hound” him and his wife. Speaking in court on the verge of tears, he said Associated Newspapers Ltd (ANL) had continued to make Meghan’s life “absolute misery” during the case against it.

Before the legal process began, Meghan accused the Daily Mail in December of violating “clear ethical boundaries” by reporting from her estranged father Thomas Markle’s bedside after he claimed he had not received his daughter’s messages. ANL denies all allegations of misconduct.
