LIV Golf: Bryson DeChambeau wins in Singapore after ‘brutal’ play-off

Bryson DeChambeau won his fourth LIV Golf title with a “brutal” playoff victory over Canadian wild card Richard T Lee at Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore.
American DeChambeau secured the trophy on the first extra hole despite finding water on the tee after both players finished at 14 under.
Lee birdied four of his final six holes to set the clubhouse mark but was unable to maintain that momentum.
On the first playoff hole, DeChambeau gave his opponent an instant advantage by throwing his ball into the lake as they played the 18th round.
But Lee’s conservative approach backfired when DeChambeau saved the par five.
Lee then missed a painfully short par putt and DeChambeau, clearly surprised by Greenside, was able to celebrate his victory.
“What a crazy day it was,” DeChambeau told TNT Sports.
“When I hit the water, the wind blew it out of bounds, it was brutal. I managed to pull myself together and hit three boards at 300 yards and hit the water again.
“I had to go and attack. I feel so bad for Richard. I wanted to go and play an extra hole. Sport is cruel; you never want to see someone miss a putt like that.”
Lee’s second place was the highest finish achieved by a wild card in an LIV event, earning him $2.25m (£1.7m) over 35 years from the $20m (£15.1m) individual prize fund.
“It was a short putt and I wanted to hit it hard, but I hit it a little too hard,” Lee said.
“I think the adrenaline was getting a little high. But I felt like I did well this week too. I played really well. I hope I can try again next week.”
DeChambeau, 32, collected $4m (£3.1m) for his victory; 52-year-old British Lee Westwood came in third, 12 behind, and received $1.5 million (£1.16 million).
