Father Arrested For Allegedly Poisoning Newborn Girl In Belagavi

Belagavi: In the shocking incident, a 28-year-old man was arrested for allegedly poisoning and killing his 15-day-old daughter in Ukkad village under Kakti police station limits of Belagavi district.

Police announced that the accused was Bheemarai Banappa Chippadi and the victim was Priyanka. The complaint was filed by his wife Sheela.

According to Commissioner of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, the incident took place around 2 pm on March 17, while the mother and the baby were sleeping. It was claimed that the suspect, who took advantage of the situation, administered poison to the baby. The child began crying and foaming at the mouth and died soon after. The suspect then fled the scene.

Inspector Suresh and his team secured the accused and recovered the toxic substance which was destroyed by him after the incident.

A case has been registered at Kakti police station and further investigation is ongoing.

It was learned that the defendant asked his wife to return home from his parents’ house after the birth, but his wife told him that she would come three months later. It is also alleged that the girl was unhappy with the birth of her child, although further investigation is ongoing to pinpoint why.

The couple had gotten married in May 2025 and this was their first child.
