Easter travel LIVE: Traffic chaos warning as 22m journeys in UK today | UK | News

Brits are bracing for Easter travel chaos today as a record 22 million trips are expected across the UK on the busiest day of Bank Holiday getaways.
As millions of people head out to visit family, go on holiday or fly abroad, drivers face long queues on major routes such as the M25, M6, M5 and A303. Congestion is expected to be particularly severe on parts of the M25 around London, the M6 via Birmingham towards Blackpool and the M5 to the South West. The AA says 21.7 million trips were planned today alone, making it busier than any other day of the four-day weekend. Rail passengers are also being hit by major disruption, with a six-day outage on part of the West Coast Main Line and hundreds of engineering works across the network. Airports are also expected to be full as two million Britons fly abroad between Good Friday and Easter Monday. Forecasters also warned that strong winds of up to 90 miles per hour could cause further disruption over the weekend, particularly in Scotland, northern England and Wales.
