Germany: Baby girl and her mum killed after horror incident during Easter egg hunt | World | News

Three people, including a 10-month-old girl, died when high winds toppled a tree during an Easter egg hunt in northern Germany on Sunday, police said. About 50 people from a nearby residential facility for new mothers, pregnant women and children were attending the event in the woods near the town of Satrupholm around 11 a.m. when a 100-foot (100-foot) tree fell on the group, according to police.
A strong wind caused a large tree to fall, trapping four people under it and prompting a major emergency response. Approximately 80 rescuers arrived at the scene just after 11 a.m. following calls for emergency help. Unfortunately, despite all efforts, a 21-year-old mother, her 10-month-old baby and a 16-year-old daughter lost their lives in the accident.
The seriously injured 18-year-old woman was taken to hospital by helicopter.
The facility, part of the state-funded child welfare system, provides support to pregnant women and new mothers. Grief counselors were sent to help survivors of the incident.
Photos published by Bild showed Easter eggs scattered on the ground and two victims covered with white sheets, further adding to the bleak scene.
