Retired four-star General Jack Keane has expressed doubts that the ceasefire in Iran will hold, arguing that Tehran is using the pause to delay and relieve pressure to test whether the United States has the “stomach” to restart the war.

Keane said on “Jesse Watters Primetime” on Tuesday: “I’m skeptical about where we’re going with the Iranians because I don’t trust them at all and I don’t like to take the pressure off them by having a ceasefire, which is what they want anyway to force the United States to stop the war.”

“We’ve only done this temporarily, but we need to see what this agreement means.”

He warned that Tehran has a long history of using negotiations to buy time, describing Iranian leaders as “experts at hiding and delaying agreements” who “lie, promise and fail to deliver.”

This is something President Donald Trump knows very well, Keane said, noting that the president’s relations with Tehran have made him “open-minded” about the difficulties of reaching a lasting agreement.

“The president and his team know who they’re dealing with, so we’re going to have to hold our feet to the fire, and if this blows up in our faces, we’ve got to have the stomach to get it done,” he added.

Trump announced Tuesday that he would delay the “bombing and attack on Iran” for two weeks, based on his talks with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.
