Iranian president sides with Pope Leo as row over Trump’s ‘Jesus’ image explodes | World | News

Iran sided with Pope Leo XIV after Donald Trump attacked the head of the Catholic Church twice on Sunday. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also talked about the strange artificial intelligence-generated image that the US leader published overnight, depicting himself as Jesus Christ.

In a message published on X, the Iranian President wrote, directly addressing the Pope: “His Holiness Pope Leo

This comes after Mr Trump accused the Pope of being “weak on Crime and terrible on Foreign Policy” on social media platform Truth Social.

He added: “I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s okay for Iran to have Nuclear Weapons. I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s terrible that America is attacking Venezuela, a country that is sending massive amounts of Drugs to the US and worse, dumping its prisons into our Country, including murderers, drug dealers and murderers.”

The Holy Father said Mr. Trump would continue his call for peace and encourage dialogue during his ongoing campaign in the Middle East.

“I don’t think the message of the Bible is meant to be misused in the way some people have,” he told Reuters.

“I will continue to speak out against war, promote peace, promote dialogue and multilateral relations between states, and seek fair solutions to problems.”

“To equate my message with what the president is trying to do here, I think, is not understanding what the message of the Bible is,” he told the Associated Press.

“I am sorry to hear this, but today I will continue what I believe is the mission of the church in the world.”
