No raining on their parade! Glamorous Ladies Day revellers at the Scottish Grand National brave the wet weather in thigh-skimming outfits and plunging dresses as the festival gets off to a blustery start

- The Grand National Festival of Scotland kicks off on Friday
Ladies’ Day at the Coral Scottish Grand National was met with a debacle on the first day of racing, with rain-soaked spectators clutching windswept brollies as they made their way to the course.
Umbrellas proved to be one of the most important accessories of the day as the skies cleared over Ayr racetrack in Ayrshire, Scotland.
But the rainy weather couldn’t dampen spirits as revelers shouted and cheered on their horses as they sipped cocktails and dressed to impress.
Some braved the rain with bare legs, heeled sandals and hip-covering clothes, trying desperately to keep their elaborate headgear dry.
But the windy weather proved too much for some racing fans, who struggled to control their hats, or worse, lost them.
The annual event is one of the highlights of the Scottish racing calendar but it’s not just about the action on the track.
Participants hope to attract the attention of the jury, who will award awards to the best dressed.

The two-day event will conclude tomorrow afternoon at the Coral Scottish Grand National, with Kim Roque leading the 21 runners.
The six-year-old is the sponsors’ favorite for the four-mile race at Ayr and is looking to put his nose forward for the first time this campaign.
Danny Mullins will be hoping to get past Aintree and make it another family affair for his Scottish equivalent mother Margaret Mullins at Blaze The Way.
The jockey had shared the victory of Uncle Willie, who was the British trainer champion that season, in this race with Macdermott two years ago.
“He’s doing well, he jumped over Willie’s fence and I’m very pleased with him,” Margaret Mullins said.
‘We are happy. I wasn’t staying at home, I’m happy to go. He’s a beautiful horse. He did well at Cheltenham and faced a lot at the Naas meeting, but I was happy.
‘We’ll give it a try, see if we’re good enough.’
King Of Answers is another standout on the market following his impressive second-place finish in the National Hunt Challenge Cup Novices’ Handicap Chase at Prestbury Park.
“It’s been a step up from what she did at Cheltenham,” said Michael Scudamore, who trains jointly with Lucinda Russell.
‘The slightly softer ground on Saturday also seems to reveal his strength, there is a lot of weight he has to carry but he has that weight because he deserves it.
‘He’s had a nice refresh since Cheltenham and he’s very good. ‘He’s improved and improved as the season has gone on, which is a good thing and hopefully he can take a step forward on Saturday.’
Mark Walford’s Chasingouttheblues is aiming for a hat-trick of fantastic results since the start of 2026.
‘He’s in great shape. It’s nice to try another good basket with him,’ the North Yorkshire coach said.
‘He probably wasn’t in the best shape at the start of the season, he wasn’t in his best form, but he’s really improved this year and he’s really continuing to progress.’
Kim Muir winner Ask Brewster favors second-placed Catherine Williams in Road To Home, the only runner for Willie Mullins. Paul Nicholls’ Quebecois is another leading candidate.
Joseph O’Brien is confident in the endurance of Kim Roque, who led the field with 21 runs in the Coral Scottish Grand National on Saturday.
