Man escapes police custody after claiming to ‘feel unwell’ as manhunt launched | UK | News

Police are looking for a man who escaped from custody after claiming to feel unwell.

Gary Gainard, 47, was detained in Bristol after failing to appear in court on Saturday, April 18, on charges of theft.

Despite being detained, the person managed to escape from the unit, causing the police to take action to obtain information from the public.

Avon and Somerset Police said Gainard was transferred from the custody unit to the Royal United Hospital in Bath after he complained of ‘feeling unwell’.

This is where he escaped from the police at 14.30.

Police carried out extensive searches with the support of a canine unit and the National Police Air Service Helicopter, but Gainard remains at large.

The 47-year-old man is stated to be white-skinned, around 1.80 meters tall, with short brown hair.

Police believe he has connections to South Bristol.

A spokesman for the force said: “We are trying to trace Gary Gainard, 47, who is wanted for escaping from lawful custody.

“He was arrested in Bristol on Saturday, April 18, for failing to attend court on charges of shoplifting, but escaped from custody after being taken to hospital in Bath.

“If you see him please call 999 ref 5226106044.”
