Weather tracker: temperatures in Spain and Brazil well above late April norm | Spain

Temperatures in Spain are expected to rise well above seasonal averages throughout this week. Daytime temperatures in Madrid could reach 30C on Tuesday, 10C above normal, while in Seville it could reach 34C, around 9C above average for late April. The low pressure area in the Atlantic will allow a flow from the southwest and bring warm air from northern Africa. In addition to this warmth, a significant dust cloud is expected to move northward from the Sahara, covering the skies over Iberia and southwestern France, leading to particularly orange or red skies at sunrise and sunset.
In Brazil, high temperatures are predicted to occur in the next few days in the states of São Paulo, Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul and Santa Catarina, then spread to Minas Gerais. Here, daytime maximum temperatures are expected to reach 30 degrees Celsius later in the week, about 5-10 degrees above the seasonal average.
Severe storms are expected in Botswana and South Africa on Tuesday. In the heaviest downpours, rainfall rates can reach 20-30 mm per hour, bringing the risk of local flooding, and frequent lightning and hail may occur.
In North America, the cold weather that recently brought snow to the western United States will give way to exceptional mid-spring temperatures this week. The center of the heat will likely be in Montana and Nebraska, as well as northwestern states like North and South Dakota, where temperatures could reach over 30 degrees, about 15 degrees above seasonal norms. The abnormal heat will spread eastward, with parts of the midwest and northeast expected to experience very high temperatures by the end of the workweek.
