Leicester City RELEGATED to League One – 10 years after winning the Premier League

Leicester City’s back-to-back relegations are confirmed; The Foxes were relegated to League One just a decade after becoming Premier League champions.
Gary Rowett’s side needed an unusual run of results to retain their Championship status, going into the game on eight points from safety with just three points to spare.
And play-off chasers Hull sealed the Foxes’ fate at the King Power Stadium. Leicester had hopes when Jordan James’s 52nd-minute penalty was followed up with Luke Thomas’ strike two minutes later, despite trailing 1-0 at half-time thanks to a goal from Liam Millar.
A first win in eight games would have taken their survival bid into the final two games of the season, but Ollie McBurnie’s 15th league goal of the season leveled the sides and they were unable to find a winner.
Leicester started the season among the favorites for promotion after being relegated from the Premier League last year.
Marti Cifuentes, appointed as coach in the summer, was dismissed in January; The Foxes were 14th in the Championship standings and six points off the play-off places.
Andy King oversaw four defeats in his interim tenure before Rowett was appointed in February.

Relegation to third division comes just a decade after Leicester’s shock Premier League title
Gary Rowett’s side saw their relegation confirmed following their match against Hull City.
Leicester have won just one of their 11 games since falling into the relegation zone, leaving them adrift in their bid to avoid relegation.
The Foxes’ hopes of avoiding relegation were dashed earlier this month when the club’s appeal against the six-point deduction was rejected.
The sentence was handed down by an independent commission in February. He was charged by the Premier League in May 2025 for breaches relating to the 2023-24 season when they were in the Championship.
Fans voiced their disappointment with the club’s ownership and players during a dismal season that saw relegation for the third time in four seasons.
Midfielder Harry Winks, who is said to earn £90,000-a-week, was seen clashing with fans as he made his way to the team coach who sent Leicester facing relegation after losing 1-0 to Portsmouth at the weekend.
It comes ten years since Leicester’s shock Premier League title win as Leicester have slipped to third place for the second time in the club’s history.
On the eve of the match against Hull, Leicester announced that they would celebrate the 10th anniversary of their title with a charity match to raise funds through the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation.
Leicester chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, whose late father Vichai managed the title win, has issued a statement apologizing to fans for relegation to League One.
‘Our fans say relegation to League One is now confirmed. As president, this responsibility belongs to me. “There is no excuse,” the statement said.
‘We’ve been through the highest highs and now the lowest lows, and the pain is shared by us all. I’m really sorry for the disappointment we’ve caused.
‘I understand the strength of feeling among our fans and we do not take your support for granted, especially in moments like these. Our focus now is on what happens next.
We will take the decisions necessary to move the club forward, working together to rebuild, improve and restore the standards expected of Leicester City.
‘Our goal is clear; to respond strongly and compete to take this Club forward again. We will face this situation. We will continue. Together. Top.’
