GHMC Rolls Out Summer Heatwave Plan

Hyderabad: As summer approaches, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has implemented a preparedness and mitigation plan to protect public health.
Field-level measures include setting up chalivendrams (drinking water kiosks) at select locations and public shelters in high-density pedestrian areas. Medical preparedness has been strengthened through increased coordination with Urban Primary Health Centers and Basti Dawakhanas. Special hospital beds for heat-related illnesses have been designated and a toll-free helpline has been opened for emergencies and teleconsultations.
Heatwave warnings based on IMD data are now displayed on digital billboards at major traffic intersections, as well as in multimedia campaigns on official social media platforms.
In order to prioritize the welfare of outdoor workers, laborers and the urban poor, health camps were organized at construction sites and ambulances were kept ready at large workplaces. GHMC advised residents to stay hydrated, avoid sun exposure during peak sun hours between 12 noon and 4 pm, and take special care of the elderly, children and vulnerable groups.
Authorities warned people to go to the nearest Basti Dawakhana and seek immediate medical attention if they experience dizziness or headache.
