Marks and Spencer ‘to open 20,000sq ft store with food hall’ | UK | News

Marks & Spencer is proposing a massive new M&S Foodhall in a medieval market town in Buckinghamshire. The supermarket giant is highlighting its plans for land on White Lion Road in Amersham. The proposal, which is subject to planning approval, has a floor area of over 20,000 square meters and a car park with parking spaces for approximately 190 cars.
The proposed site’s website says it would “support up to 100 permanent jobs in a variety of roles from customer service and retail to management.” M&S said it would “also create jobs during construction and through the local supply chain, supporting the Buckinghamshire economy and ensuring local contractors and expertise play a key role in the delivery of the new store.”
“In the lavish new foodroom, customers can look forward to fresh produce from M&S’ Select Farms, a bakery and coffee counter serving in-store barista-made beverages, everyday essentials from our Exceptional Value and Bigger Pack Better Value ranges, dedicated Flower and Wine shops and popular M&S ranges: Nutrient Dense, Plant Kitchen, Just… Ingredients and Eat Healthy.”
The supermarket says it will include:
M&S says that, if approved, it would bring “a significant investment to the city, delivering a modern, purpose-built store designed to meet the needs of today’s shoppers and future generations”.
Buckinghamshire Council is currently considering the plans.
M&S already has a Simply Food branch on Sycamore Road in the city centre.
Amersham’s history dates back at least to the Anglo-Saxon period (fifth to tenth centuries), and its medieval roots are still evident in the plan of the old town.
