Queen Camilla to reunite beloved Winnie the Pooh toy during US visit | Royal | News

Little Roo will be reunited with his family at 100 Acre Wood this week, as baby Kangeroo from the famous childhood story Winnie the Pooh travels to the USA with the King and Queen. During the royal couple’s four-day official visit to the United States, literature lover Camilla will visit the New York Public Library.

The iconic Manhattan building is home to the teddy bears, which belonged to AA Milne’s son and are believed to have inspired the Winnie the Pooh stories, which were first published exactly 100 years ago in 1926.

The Queen will see the soft toys as she peruses the library’s permanent Treasury collection while the couple are in the Big Apple on Wednesday.

However, while Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, Kanga and Eeyore were displayed in the private collection, the original Roo toy was lost in an apple orchard in the 1930s and was not in the collection.

There will be no more of the unfinished set, as the Queen will gift the library a specially made Roo doll for the visit from Merrythinking, the British manufacturer who produced the original toys at the turn of the twentieth century.

The design is based on original artwork rather than the more familiar Disney-like cartoon versions.

Roo is currently based at Buckingham Palace and is preparing for the visit and will fly in style, accompanying the Queen on the royal plane.

The bear’s gift, one of the purposes of the trip, is thought to be a celebration of the many cultural ties between the two countries.

The US state visit will take place from April 27-30, 2026. This will be the first official visit by a British monarch since May 2007.

President Trump is received by the King at Windsor in September 2025.
