London Marathon LIVE: Latest updates after ‘race delay | Other | Sport

The 2026 London Marathon takes place today and more than 59,000 people are expected to complete the 26.2-mile course. The 2025 event set a world record for the number of race finishers, with a total of 56,640 participants completing the distance despite hot conditions.

The route has remained largely unchanged since its inception in 1981. The 26.2-mile point-to-point route begins in Blackheath and ends at The Mall near Buckingham Palace.

This year’s elite races also feature four defending champions: Sabastian Sawe, Tigst Assefa, Marcel Hug and Catherine Debrunner.

In terms of sports stars, Aaron Ramsey, Sir Alastair Cook, Sebastian Vettel, Tony Adams and Dame Laura Kenny are expected to appear.

Sir Mo Farah and England Women’s Rugby World Cup winner Ellie Kildunne have the honor of officially kicking off the event at Greenwich Park and you can follow all the action below.
